heard around town - what’s happening in augusta and aiken
The Whistle Stop CafĂ©, the beloved local breakfast joint on the corner of Sixth and Greene streets, closed last year. Soon, it will be back in business.“I found out on a Friday that the owner was pursuing other interests and that I had till the end of the day Saturday to get whatever I could from the place,” says Barry Hager, who managed and cooked at the Whistle Stop alongside waitress Tammy Salter. “It was a real shame, because I know a lot of people who did not expect it to close and who missed getting their breakfast on the way to work.”

LIVING GREEN: Reduce, Reuse, Recyle Should Be the Mantra
The concept of sustainable living or “going green” is getting a lot of attention these days. In fact, everything we do has an impact on the environment. The choices you make – from where you live, to how you shop, to what you do for vacation – determine whether that impact is good or bad. Making choices that help the environment is easy when you follow the 3R’s of resource conservation: reduce, reuse and recycle.
